Care
On-site care with a focus on wellness.
The Resident Care Clinic at Kendal is staffed by one physician and two nurse
practitioners from nearby Dartmouth-Hitchcock
Medical Center , the largest and most advanced medical facility in
northern New England. These professionals serve as the primary care providers
for about 98 percent of our residents, offering both convenience and continuity
of care, should you need to be referred to DHMC (only minutes away) for
specialized services. Your managed lifetime health care program at Kendal
includes routine physicals, immunizations, and health screenings-all part of
our focus on continuing wellness, physical fitness, and maintaining each
resident's highest level of self-care and independence. Pool therapy, exercise
and dance classes, and strength training are among the many wellness programs
offered at Kendal. Kendal also provides 24-hour skilled nursing services,
on-call attending physicians and on-site services by referral, such as physical
therapy, occupational therapy, social service and dietary counseling.
Getting the assistance you need to move on with your life.
Depending on your health situation, you may be eligible to move directly from
your home into a Kendal assisted-living residence. Although assisted-living
residents are basically self reliant, many require help with daily living tasks
such as bathing, dressing and taking medications. For residents who are part of
our assisted-living program, or who are staying in the health center, our
health care staff creates individualized programs that encourage as much
independence as possible. To avoid an institutional feel, residents bring their
own furniture, the staff does not wear uniforms, and there is no public address
system. One resident who moved from a nursing home to assisted living at Kendal
appreciated the fact that, here, she could still be an active part of the
community.
Kendal is designed to accommodate the realities of aging--including apartments
and walkways that enhance mobility to dining options to meet specific dietary
requirements--so that every resident can take full advantage of the wide
variety of intellectual, cultural and social opportunities available in the
community. In addition to our traditional life care contract, Kendal has
expanded its contract options to include a per diem contract for
residents. Regardless of which contract you choose, it is important to
note--as a continuing care retirement facility, Kendal guarantees you will
never have to move, regardless of whether you or your spouse need more nursing
care or assistance.
Our new enhanced Health Center.
Kendal at Hanover has completed renovations on the health
care facilities, including assisted living and care for residents with various
forms of dementia. Because many individual with Alzheimer's disease
suffer a loss of depth perception, Kendal is particularly attentive to the use
of color and contrast to distinguish walls from furniture, for example.
Since hyperactivity is a frequent by-product of Alzheimer's, the refurbished
wing includes an indoor-outdoor walking garden as an alternative to Kendal's
existing outdoor circular walking garden. The center includes space for
residents to enjoy music, games, and other activities.
