In communities such as Hanover, being so close to Dartmouth, residents are able to lead stimulating active lives largely based on taking advantage of opportunities on campus, from auditing classes and lectures to attending concerts and sporting events. At Dartmouth, such options extend outdoors to include skiing at the Dartmouth Skiway or on an extensive network of cross-country trails, as well as participating in organized hikes, nature walks, and canoe trips at Storrs Pond. One of Kendal’s top benefits is the partnership with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Dartmouth. Staffed by volunteers, the institute offers a variety of adult-education courses on a wide range of subjects each semester as well as a summer lecture series. The institute’s classes are held at Dartmouth and in venues around Hanover, including Kendal. Nearly half of Kendal community residents are enrolled in the institute.
